The Fantasy Football League Professionals
Deep Dark Secrets
A look at possible sleepers for the year

by: Scott Sommers

As the month of August comes in, the fantasy owner starts thinking about who to draft. I have done plenty of searching and have found a couple guys that may help your team to a fantasy championship.

Quarterbacks

Patrick Ramsey, Washington – I know that he didn’t do a lot last year, but now that he is the man in D.C. He will have a chance to throw for a lot of scores. He has two proven receivers in Rod Gardner and Laveraneus Coles, while Trung Canidate will, for the time being give him a threat out of the backfield. He could throw for 25 touchdowns, proving that he is at a minimum a back-up and spot starter. Does anyone remember what Coles did for Pennington last year? The scenario could be the same this year.

Trent Green, Kansas City – It is a bit tough to say that Green is a sleeper, but a lot of drafts won’t have him go in the top ten. Last year, the Chiefs led the league in scoring with Green throwing 26 touchdowns. Green did that with a bum ankle and a group of overachieving receivers, sans Tony Gonzalez. The receivers haven't improved much, but Gonzo should be healthy and ready to go this season.

Running Backs

This is the area where a lot of owners want to get that super sleeper and put up big numbers.

Cornell Buckhalter, Philadelphia – Staley has really ticked off the Eagles coaching staff and now this is Buckhalter’s job to lose. He looks to be completely recovered from his ACL injury and has looked good in camp. If he ends up as the man in Philly, he could score 10 times this year and gain over 1,000 yards.

Thomas Jones, Tampa Bay – He could be a flyer in the late rounds. Jones has shown a spark or two, but never has been consistent. He may not get a lot of touches near the goal line, but he could be a dynamite performer in yardage leagues, if he wins the job with Michael Pittman facing jail time.

Trung Canidate, Washington – He is now out of Faulk’s shadow, so let’s see what he can do. So far, everyone is happy with what he brings to the table. Let’s see if he can set it and sit down for longer than a cup of coffee. He didn’t score last year, but that should change this year. Canidate has been helped that a few of the running backs have been dinged up bit. Don’t be shocked if he ends up scoring 10 times or more.

Wide Receivers

Javon Walker, Green Bay – Walker is someone the Packers hope will prove to be a threat this year. Worst case, he is the number three wide-out which isn’t bad in the Packers offense. He has a great chance to beat out Robert Ferguson and get even more looks this year. Walker has the potential to score at least 7 times this year, if he plays to the potential the Packers thinks he has. He could very well be a great third wide out or a solid second.

Josh Reed, Buffalo – Reed gets an outstanding opportunity this year with Peerless Price movign on to Atlanta. He already has some rapport with Bledsoe, but now steps in as the starting wide out opposite Eric Moulds. Reed has decent hands and good speed, so he will be a nice fit for the Bills offense.
